On August 4, the opening ceremony of the Asian Judo Championship among men and women took place at the martial arts palace named after Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov. The opening ceremony was attended by Vice Minister of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Maratuly Zharasbayev, Akim of the city of Nur-Sultan Altai Seydiruly Kulginov, President of the Asian Judo Union Obaid al-Anzi, Acting President of the Kazakhstan Judo Federation Askhat Rasululy Zhitkeev and General Director of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan Serik Seyituly Kaskabasov.
Over the course of four days of the continental championship, tatami masters will determine the strongest in individual and mixed competitions.
About 200 judokas from 19 Asian countries are taking part in the tournament. 18 athletes of the national team will defend the honor of the country in the flag competition. Among them, Olympic champions and world championship winners will also try their luck.
