Asian wrestling championship started in Astana

Today, the opening ceremony of the Asian Championship in Greco-Roman, freestyle and women's wrestling took place at the capital's Martial Arts Palace named after Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov.

The opening ceremony of the event was attended by the Minister of Culture and Sports Askhat Oralov, Deputy Mayor of Astana Eset Baiken, a member of the United Wrestling World - UWW bureau, the President of the UWW Asian Council, the President of the Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Women's Wrestling Federation. I am glad to see you all at the opening ceremony of the international tournament, which is taking place in the vicinity of our beloved capital. Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev pays special attention to the development of this sport. From children to teenagers, our professional athletes are provided with all favorable conditions by the state. We can say that one of the proofs is the organization of the Asian Championship in the country of Kazakhstan. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Daulet Turlykhanov, President of the UWW Asian Council. I believe that the winners of this tournament will become an example for our youth. It will not be wrong to say that this is a significant event in the history of the country as a whole. I wish the wrestlers success,” Askhat Oralov said in his congratulatory speech.

Also, Deputy Akim of Astana Eset Baiken wished success to the tournament participants.

A special award on behalf of the United World Wrestling Association (UWW) was presented to Askhat Oralov, Eset Baiken and Daulet Turlykhanov.

400 wrestlers from 24 countries of the continent take part in this exciting competition. During the 6-day competition, winners and runners-up in 30 weight categories will be determined. A set of 10 medals for each type of wrestling will be raffled off.

Day session at 11:00 (qualifiers, semi-finals and repechage matches), evening session at 18:00 (finals for 1st and 3rd places)
